The amateur botanist in me would like you to know I don’t kill that many potted plants, really.

pixelazy The saga of my sad botany skills continues but this fern has obviously been revived to some measure of health.

8r4d The fern has definitely taken a turn for the better since I repotted it a few weeks ago. #houseplants Perhaps looking enviously out the front window at the fresh #rain we’re getting today?

8r4d Another shot of the #mushroom about 5 hours later when the cap opened up a lot more and right before I plucked it from the soil along with a big scoop of contaminated soil. It was kinda cool seeing some fungi in one of my #houseplants bit I really don’t need it in all of them!

8r4d Wasn’t I surprised when I found this little mushroom sprouted in one of my jade plants this afternoon. As best as I can figure it’s a Flowerpot Parasol (Leucocoprinus birnbaumii) common in #houseplants when conditions are right. For now it’s a curiosity, but I’ll need to keep my eye on it. And no, it’s not edible.

8r4d We have about 40 #houseplants in our house in various states of size and health. I have a habit of rescuing sick #plants from greenhouses, so many are small and scraggly. This fern was one of those. I nursed it back to life s couple years ago and for a long time it was strong and healthy, but then I think it outgrew its old pot and in a matter of a couple months it nearly died in me. On one of those rare warm late winter days it was above freezing so I repotted it to find a malodorous root ball nearly rotting out in an overstuffed pot. I gave it fresh soil and…well it’s not back to its old self but it’s been vigorously growing even just this past week. One new frond came out s few weeks ago but until about a week ago that was it. Now? There are about a dozen fiddleheads and it’s looking quite spry.
