8r4d After a three week #running hiatus I was back on the icy #winter trails and logging a #parkrun … probably one of my slowest on record, but better than being stuck on the couch with a sore back.

8r4dsfeets I don’t always wear spikes when #running but when I do …it’s freakin icy is why!

8r4d Technically not my first run of the year but definitely the first time i’ve been #running outside in 2026. Between the deep cold and the icy sidewalks we’ve stuck to the track for the last couple weeks. But 9k on the snowy paths was a great and welcome change of pace.

8r4d The crew had a little #winter potluck and then went outside to play in the snow.

8r4d Lester and I checked out the trails as the temperatures cracked zero again just before new years. #snowshoeing

8r4d Oh so did I mention that #winter #running season was waiting for me when I got back to Canada. It wasn’t my first time out but Sunday’s run was -16C plus a chill, so we logged… trudged… six klicks thru the snow and called it a cold success.

8r4d Well Plan A got a little sidetracked and we got to the train station and the tickets to the airport were sold out until about 615pm departures. Or flight leaves at 625pm. Um.

Plan B involved hiking all the way across Tokyo Station and catching the bus. So there were went.

Long story short, we arrived at Narita in less style than we left it, even passing in visible range of our Disneyland hotel which we’d left just three hours previous. We checked in, ate some more conveyor belt #sushi and then proceeded thru security and exit immigration.

In a couple hours, fingers crossed for no delays, we’ll be in the air and en route … and it’s sayonara #japan [read more...]
