The last flight out of Los Angeles left about twenty minutes late, which ain’t bad considering what’s been going on. On the last day of our vacation, literally standing in ride for a line, we got an email from Westjet that a strike had started and the airline had started cancelling flights across their system and to keep checking the website. All but two of the Canada-bound flights out of LA were cut and somehow we happened to be on one of those two while hundreds of other passengers scrambled for an alternate ride back home. I’m writing this the next morning over a cup of coffee on my backyard deck and I will note that our exact flight is now on the cancelled list from today forward. So had we opted to stay until Sunday we we would at this moment be on the phone with the airline customer service negotiating an alternate way home. Thankfully, we were just a few minutes over schedule and we hopped into the car, drove to the mid-point between the in-laws and home to pick up the puppy, and were home in bed by about 11pm.
