Backyard
8r4d We started off the year with a #water problem when on #newyears one of our guests discovered a leaky faucet in our backyard. A couple hours of panic but we fixed it. Today the city was dealing with a water shortage as something broke in the treatment plant and city-wide we were on a half-capacity restriction.

Resolute
8r4d It’s the start of a new year and #newyears day. While 2023 was a year of many changes flipping the calendar page neither ends that momentum nor really changes it. It does give me a milestone to reflect and adjust tho. And as I work towards some lofty goals in 2024 I am taking this day as a day to flip the metaphorical switch, look across the horizon at where I came from (literally in this photograph) and set a tone for the upcoming 366 days. I have some new fitness ideas. I have a long list of creative ideas. And my participation on social media is (not vanishing but)definitely changing. The point of this post is to say that I’ll be bringing my core focus home and posting on my personal platforms first and foremost, while putting deliberate care and attention into other platforms second. So, for example if you want to see more art as I make it then you’ll need to come here regularly, but it will still pop up other places on pre-scheduled shipping days if you’re patient. Stay tuned.

New Years Eve
8r4d Who has time to post before midnight on #newyears what with the party and the #campfire and the plumbing emergency and all. We cooked a #brisket and played virtual reality and scrambled to find a countdown and now its 2024.

The Calm Before…
8r4d #newyears eve and the inevitable arrival of our annual guests is at hand. We’ve been preparing lots of things, not least of which is the all-important charging of the video game controllers. With a swarm of teens and kids arriving my console collection will likely get a workout this evening.

Cookies
8r4d It’s the mid-holiday season, that span of time between #xmas and #newyears when the house is reasonably quiet, video games are getting played, jigsaws are being jigged, and there’s more food (read: cookies, chocolates and snacks) available than at almost any time of year. Couple that with the cold temperatures and a lot less running and one guess which direction everyone’s scales are spinning this week, huh?

Night Walking
8r4d As the old year ends and #newyears approaches I’ve been thinking a lot about how I want to live the next year. I made a lot of big life changes in 2023, and that’s good. But I also did a lot of my changing in public. That wasn’t so much a performative action as it was a validation of my actions. But six months along I’m not only feeling significantly more solid in my choices but am settling into a mindset that Pressfield calls “territorial” — or simply a mindset in which I more wholeheartedly pursue these crafts for my own personal growth and satisfaction, and less so for any kind of social standing or feedback. In short, it has me thinking of how 2024 might look (outwardly) a lot different for other who have been following along and watching me these last months. Specifically different in that I want to actively disengage from the so-called #socialmedia performance of doing these crafts and posting for likes, and rather just do them so I can improve. To write for writing sake and paint for painting sake. What that looks like I don’t quite know yet.
