squwetchy A practice rose by any other name? #watercolour class number 7 means that I really only have one more homework assignment, huh?

This pursuit for the artistic is a captivating mountain peak that seems forever out of reach even as I know each hill that I crest on the climb. If that sounds self-depricating and demoralizing, it probably is. And though I don’t honestly mean to diminish myself or your perception of my work, you should know that with every brushstroke there is this improvement that is approaching something, but seemingly taking smaller steps. I can flip through my first watercolour folio and see the improvements from painting to painting, those first few images standing out as amature and misunderstanding of the medium. And that, even that, after years of informal art training and practice, finding myself muddling through muddled sketches that were using watercolour paints no better than a child makes great art with their wax crayons. Of course the audience looks at the work and sees it in a way that is less jaded than the artist. I see the flaws. I see the runbacks. I see the hestiations I made in certain strokes. Confidence in the medium is evoked in the final product, didn’t you know? I climb higher and higher and higher and yet each step seems to bring me up another foot closer to a destination that suddenly seems two feet further away. It doesn’t mean I will stop climbing, but it is the grind endured herein.
