Any variety of books by the king of horror, Mr. King. I read my first King fiction way back in elementary school, much younger than I likely should have, in the form of a short story from one of his collections. The story was Children of the Corn, and I too entered something that day and never left.

Post: Classically Horrific Clowning Around
Thursday the 16th of January, 2025, during prime time.

You can thank Stranger Things, that iconic Netflix show of a couple years back that sparked a resurgence in 80s horror, and I jumped on that bandwagon fully intending to read one of the spiritual influences of that retro show, IT by Stephen King.

In fact, it was hard not to discuss Stranger Things with anyone without at some point someone describing it as an “updated IT” for modern sensibilities. Not that either of them are sensible, but alas, a few seconds later I found myself with a loaf of paper sitting on my shelf yearning to be read.

I legit started.

But whatever, whatever, whatever, life got in the way and a year or so later IT’s been sitting just below the top of my reading stack, that literal stack of books beside my bed.

No longer.

Having resolved to read a lot this year and start that effort by finishing a lot, too, IT is back on the docket and I’m rewinding a couple dozen pages for the refresher and then pushing onward into the dark soul of Mr. King.
