Version 4.0 | 20 hours ago
8r4d It’s been almost four years since I launched this little web site as an alternative to posting pics on Instagram, and while I’ve wandered back over to that site now and then, and struggled with security on this site too, sometime in the past year I passed 1500 posts in total here. I’d you have been visiting, hopefully you’ve enjoyed the ride as much as me. And over the last week I’ve been working to make it even better. #meta

A lot of coding, a bit of vibing, and admittedly enlisting the help of Claude Code AI to do a full security audit of my programming skills, and this site is now on Version 4.0.

More security is the key feature, and behind the scenes this makes it better for me to use. But I also added some quality of life tools to help make it easier to upload and manage more posts, oversee settings and curate metadata connections. You wont see much of that on the public side… unless you really start clicking around and exploring.

The biggest change for the front end is a flex into the desktop space. I built this thing first and foremost to act like an app on your phone. It was meant to be used by both you and me in a mobile browser. And until yesterday if you opened it up on a real computer it looked pretty big and unusable. With this version that changes. I now have access to a desktop-friendly admin panel (which only matters to you because it helps me edit and post with the help of a real keyboard and mouse.) Everyone else will not notice much on the public side… unless you open the link on your computer or laptop, and the larger screen will prompt you to use the new desktop version. It’s still a little rough at the edges, but I found an interesting way to keep the vibe of an app while making it a more enjoyable desktop experience.

Version 4.0 also now brings you a couple more hidden easter egg features hidden in menus and posts for those who like to explore, and those are on both the mobile and desktop versions.

For those looking for more interactive features, likes, comments or the same, sadly the only way to do that securely is thru an account system with logins and passwords. It’s possible but it’s a pain for all of us and I’d rather you just told me in person if you liked something. And sometimes just enjoying it is enough, y’know.

So. Four years, four versions, lots of improvements and a whole heap of posts. This is now one of my flagship personal websites, and I’m gonna keep posting and improving… so bookmark it and enjoy.
