Food photography is interesting to me because it is so possible to get a great terrible shot. The photo could be well composed, focused, beautiful, but the lighting could tint the colour palette to unpalatable. You can take a pic of something that might taste amazing, but looks photographically revolting.

The overhead light in my kitchen has a deliberate yellow hue. It’s a house. Yellow light is familiar and warm.

The under-counter lighting is crisp white LED. This was just the option, but it turns out –as evidenced by my yellow vanilla ice cream pics — that the white LED glow is much more appetizing than the overhead yellow lighting. To my in-the-now perception, that ice cream was a crisp, creamy white. In the pics… not so much.
